BANKRUPTS AND RACES CARRIER’S MISFORTUNES After six years trading as a carrier. 1-lori Ernest Baker Kobson, of Carlton Gore Road, Newmarket, filed in bankruptcy when he was pressed by his creditors. This morning. when his creditors i met, Robson was closely questioned by j Mr. G. N. Morris, the official assignee. > He admitted that he had been on race- j courses and occasionally drank. “I have not had a beat for three j years and have been to five or six 1 meeting only in that time," Robson said. "As for drinking, I do not suppose '■ that I have spent a pound on drink | in a year." "I have yet to meet a bankrupt who 1 will admit that he has bet," remarked j the assignee. Bankrupt said that he owed only £IOO before he took over a contract to run goods to Hamilton in December, 1927. Under examination lie increased the figure. When Mr. Morris examined each debt, one by one. he found that Robson owed about £2SO when he took over the contract.
To unsecured creditors. Robson ©wed £393 4s 4d. His debts to secured creditors. £355, were countered by securities valued to produce £6OO. The surplus for this, £245, and book debts producing only £ 1 were debtor’s assets. The deficiency was £ 147 4s 4d. When Robson was married in 1926. he borrowed £75 to pay a deposit on a house. He later lost possession j when he could not keep up payments ! and £IOO on the purchase. In addition. he had several bad seasons with contracts, and, his last loss was last j month, when a truck belonging to him ! went over a bank and was burned.
