NORTHCOTE BOROUGH
The Northcote Borough Council which met last evening was informed by the Devonport Steam Ferry Company. in reply to a request for an extension of tho evening services and reduction in vehicular charges on the Auckland-Northcote-Birkenhead line, that at the present time the requests could not be favourably considered. It w H.s decided to communicate with the Birkenhead Council and the Auckland Automobile Association and solicit their co-operation in making fresh representations to the company. A request from the Northern Command, New Zealand Defence Forces, for the use of about five acres on the Kauri Gully scenic reserve for carrying out consolidated training from March 21 to 27 was granted, the council being assured that no damage would be done to the area. The Department of Agriculture wrote •rating that it has no jurisdiction with noxious weeds growing in boroughs. The Noxious Weeds Act was amended last session and gave power to all local bodies to appoint their own inspectors. The council decided that in the face of this information and the complaints received regarding the neglect shown in the eradication of weeds, the complaint be referred to the Legal and Finance Committee for a recommendation. Anzae Day is to be observed by an evening service in the Onewa Theatre. town clerk was instructed to make all the necessary arrangements. A special invitation to be present is to be extended to ail returued •oldiera living in the borough.
