FINALISTS MEET
PLAY AT CHRISTCHURCH Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. The final round of the senior grade cricket matches was commenced yesterday in fine weather and on good j wickets. The two teams in the Cham- 1 pionship final are Old Boys and A Vest f Christchurch, the latter being without the help of the professional, J. Newman. Old Boys batted first and lost nine wickets for 95 runs, but the last two men, Hastie (61) and Burrows (31) carried the score to 176. llustie's j effort was plucky and luck was with him, but he gave his side its only hope f of victory. West Christchurch has lost two wickets for 70. The bowling performances for West Christchurch were; A. Newman, five ! wickets for 59 runs, llill three for 42. Riccarton scored 210 (Powell 73), against Sydenham, who have three j wickets down fur 62. Linwood, against : East Christchurch, scored 298 (Davis 94, CondlifEe 51). Against Old Col- j legians, St. Albans scored 271 (Craw- j ford 50, Cullen 61).
LAST DAY AT DUNEDIN
SHIELD WON BY DEFAULT Press Association DUNEDIN, Sunday. Under ideal conditions the senior cricket matches were concluded yesterday. Old Boys, by winning by default against Colts, had already gained the championship shield. By securing two-point wins Dunedin and Carisbrook tied for the position of runner-up. The final points were: Old Boys, 14; Casjsbrook, 11; Dunedin, 11; Orange, 9; Colts, 4: Albion (last year’s winners), 2. In reply to Grange’s first innings score of 142 Carisbrook made 228 (Blunt 63). Lemin took three wickets for 45 rims, Himes three for 32. Grange, in the second innings, lost five wickets for 175 (Knight 51, Boyd 41, not out). Albion, in the first innings, had made 111, and Dunedin won easily on the first innings by making 165 (Ritchie 40, Torrance 39). Albion, in the second innings, made 192 for the loss of six wickets (Shepherd 56, Vorrath 47).

At Palm Beach Norton (South Africa) won the second annual Southern professional tennis tournament. He defeated Vincent Richards, the title-holder, S—6, 7 —5, 6—l. At New York Borotra (France) defeated A. S. Cragin (New York), 6—l, 6 —o, in the second round of the American indoor tennis champion%’iip.
