“TOOK A WEEK TO WIN"

* LONDON PRESS COMMENTS A MARATHON MATCH (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Sunday. The London newspapers softened the blow of the loss of the final test match to the anxious public with the prosaic . headline: —“Test Match Result.” This ordinary announcement was dull in contradistinction to earlier quips in laudation of the Englishmen or banter i for the Australians. Fine praise came later. The “Evening Standard’s” poster quoted White's ; tribute to the Australians: “A victory well won.” All the comments reveal disappointment at missing a clean sweep of the test matches, but the writers agree that Australia has lost none of her ability for dour lighting, also that she has turned her earlier defeats to the best account by fielding 'the nucleus of a line side for the 1930 tour. Behind all this is a most lively disi like for “clockless cricket." The oomj ment was repeatedly heard: “But it j took them a week to do it.” ! When Australia’s victory in the final \ I test match was posted on the news- \ j paper boards in Sydney, great crowds ; | of people threw tlieir hats in the air and cheered loudly. They stood about j J discussing the triumph and praising j ' the efforts of the youthful players who \ ! in the last two test matches performed so well.
