STREET LIKE RIVER

WATER MAIN BURSTS Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The bursting of a water main in Colombo Street South on Saturday evening caused work to be suspended on that portion of the road, which is now being reconsructed. About 9 p.m. the men were laying concrete when, without any warning, the main burst. Workmen in the vicinity had a very lucky escape, as the water shot out at a terrific pace, rising over 60 feet into the air. It was over an. hour before the water was turned off, and during this time thousands of gallons had poured out of the hole and flowed down Colmobo Street toward Moorhouse Avenue. The street resembled a river.
