FLYING TO RACES

BLENHEIM TO TRENTHAM SPORTSMAN’S ENTHUSIASM Brens Association BLENHEIM, To-day. Mr. Richard Mardell, of Seddon, a member of the Marlborough Aero Club, and a well-known old sportsman, being unable to reach Wellington by steamer in time for the first race at Trentham to-day, made arrangements with the Aero Club to fiy there. He took off with Captain Chandler as pilot at 9.30, and landed on the racecourse at 11.5. This is believed to be the first instance in New Zealand of a sportsman flying to the races, and is an interesting commentary on the development of the air sense in the Dominion, and particularly in Marlborough.
