NEW ITALIAN CRUISER. —Italy’s new 10.000-ton cruiser Trento registered 38 knots in her speed trials. She is claimed to be the fastest vessel of her type afloat.—A. and H.Z.-P.A. RECORD SILVFR SALE.—American competition resulted in sensational bidding at a sale at Christie’s London, of some English silver of the 17th and 18th centuries. The silver belonged to Lord Brownlow. The total amount realised was £34,650. This is a record.—A. and N.Z.P.A. THAT TRADE TREATY.—In the Canadian House of Commons in the debate on the Budget, Mr. H. B. Adshead. Labour member for East Calsaid Western Canada was not opposed to the Australian trade treaty, but she wanted free trade. He said: "The Australian treaty, in place of being a gold brick, has turned out to b « a brick of gold.”— A.P.A.- U .S. JACOB JOHNSON CASE—The Federal Attorney-General. Mr. J. G. Latham, stated in tho House of Representatives at Canberra that he was uot prepared to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the allegations uiade by James Andresen after the Prosecution and conviction <»f Jacob Johnson, the recently reinstalled secretary of the Seamen’s Union.
