Fire Destroys Katikati Hotel
LICENSEE BURNED ON FACE STAFF’S HURRIED ESCAPE Press Association TAURANGA, To-day. Fire at 3 a.m to-day totally destroyed the Talisman Hotel, a familiar landmark at Katikati. Tho licensee, Mr. Anderson, awoke to find the place in flames, and with Mrs. Anderson and the staff and one boarder had to escape in their night attire. They lost all their belongings. Mr. Anderson made an attempt to get to the safe. He succeeded in opening the door, but the flames burned the hair off his face and he had to escape, leaving the door open. There was a heavy wind from the west at the time, and the hotel and outbuildings, with all the contents were totally destroyed in less than an hour. No water was available and nothing could be done to save the building. Had the wind been in the other direction it would have been a serious outlook for -the township. Particulars of insurances are not available.
