ROYAL SHOWS “HOME JAMES”
“Home James,” which will be shown this evening at the Royal Theatre, Kingsland, is one of the merriest comedies made by Laura La Plante. Laura’s role is that of a small-town girl who goes to the big city to become an artist, but perforce lias to work as a shopgirl. One day she smiles at a handsome youth sitting in the chauffeur’s seat of a car. not knowing that he is the son of the wealthy shop-owner. The young people fall in love much to the annoyance of their respective families, but the boy’s father finally gives his consent very readily because the girl has induced the boy to work. “The Haunted House,” the second picture, is a mystery thriller of ghosts and hidden fortunes, starring Chester Conklin as a henpecked husband.
Alice White has been signed by First National for several talking features. Her voice is said to be outstandingly musical, and in her first synchronised picture Miss White was called upon to do much solo singing: and dancing.
