CROQUET DOUBLES

MESDAMES THOMPSON AND COLE WIN TOURNEY ENDS TO-DAY Mrs. W. Cole and Mrs. M. Thompson (Mont le Grande) this afternoon defeated Mrs. W. Bruce and Miss Skeet (Remuera) in the final of the doubles championship at the Auckland Croquet Association’s tournament. The winners secured two games to their opponents’ one. The match was commenced yesterday morning, the first game going to Mesdames Cole and Thompson after a close fight. The second game was commenced in the afternoon, and when play ceased for the day at 7 p.m., had not been decided. It was completed this morning, victory going to Mrs. Bruce and Miss Skeet after a four-and-a-half hours stonewall. The final and deciding game was , begun at 10.45 a.m., Mrs. Cole and I Mrs. Thompson winning rather easily after playing a stonewalling game. The winners on their victory, and the losers on their plucky fight were congratulated by the president of the Auckland Croquet Association, Mrs. C. J. Schnauer, and the secretary, Mrs. M. Keesing. It is expected that the handicap finals will be played this afternoon, thus completing* the association’s 25th annual tournament, which has been in progress for 10 days. Mrs. Schnauer will present the trophies to the winners when play ceases.
