PRESBYTERY TO CONSIDER JOINT ACTION PROPOSED At the meeting: of the Auckland Presbytery yesterday, attention to the prevalence of organised Sunday excursions and Sunday picnics with the aid of public services was drawn by the Rev. Lawson Marsh, when presenting the report of the Public Questions Committee, j Mr. Alarsh was commissioned bv Presbytery to draw up a statement |on the subject and to communicate j with other churches with a view to organising joint action, j On behalf of the Life and Work | Committee, the Rev. Leonard H. Hunt recommended that the Presbyterv give j every possible support to the Nelson system of Bible-reading in schools and I co-operate with ministers of other deI nominations in this matter. Without j much exertion he believed they could soon have the Nelson system working lin many of their schools, but there were not enough ministers to man all the j schools in the city and suburbs. The ! report was adopted. Two calls were dealt with, one to the Rev. H. J. Lilburn, of the North jof Ireland, to Whakatane, and the [ other to the Rev. S. C. Francis, of Knox College, Dunedin, to Clevedon. Mr. Lilburn intimated his acceptance of tlie call and further arrangements i will ho made by the Bay of Plenty Presbytery. It was reported that the call to Mr. Francis had been signed by 52 out of ,85 members. He accepted it and arrangements were made for his settlement in his new parish on Tuesday. March 19.
