BEEF MARKET FIRM WESTFIELD SALE WESTFIELD. 2.30 p.m. A slightly increased yarding of approximately 500 head of fat cattle at Westfield to-day met with a market firm at late rates. Choice ox beef to 395, best young cow and Heifer beef to 33s 6d. An offering of approximately 255 steers comprised few very heavy prime cattle, the majority being light to medium-weight sorts showing average finish. Outside Auckland graziers were represented, several good quality lines from the Southern part of the province coming forward. A Te Puke vendor. D. Donovan, topped the market with two heavy prime big-framed bullocks, which went to Smith and Smith, Grey Lynn, for £l6 los. Another pen on account of this vendor went to Lees and Co.. Otahuhu. for £l6 10s. The line of 16 averaged £ls 16s sd. Fourteen exceptionally heavy prime steers on account H. E. Reed. YVaerenga, averaged £ls 8s 2d, eight of the best making £l6. four going to T. Baster, Ponsonby, two to E. Wilson, Kden Terrace, and two to W. Scotts, Ltd., Devonport. Nine heavv prime steers, on account L. R. W. Reid, Te Hoe, averaged £ls 15s 10d. Two trucks of liandy-weight smallframed young steers, on account E. G. Brown, Hinuera, made to £l3 7s 6d. The cow and heifer offering was again a most mediocre quality one. One of the few choice quality lines in the yard comprised several pens of exceptionally choice Hereford heifers on account of a South Auckland vendor. The line met with keen competition, making to £ll 7s 6d. Extra heavy prime steers made from £l6 to £l6 15s, heavy prime, £l4 15s to £ls 15s; medium. £l3 5s to £l4 10s; light and small, from £S 10s. Heavy prime young cows and heifers to £il 7s 6d; medium, £7 15s to £8 15s; light and unfinished from £4 10s. An average yarding of calves met with a very keen demand, prices for the greater part of the sale being fully on ;i par with last week s average rates. A slight causing tendency was noted toward the close. Eleven exceptionally good station-bred calves. •*n account R. Sterling, Paparoa, averaged £4 10s; eight from the same district on account J. T. Boyd, averaged £4 9s. One exceptionally choice runner in it line on account F. G. Kerr, YVhukatune, went to A. W. Scotting, St. Heliers, for £6 11s. Runners made to £6 11s; heavy vealers to £5 8s; medium runners, £*> 12s to £4 9s. light, £2 3s to £3 4s; small and fresh-dropped. 7s to -bs. rough and plain, 26s to 395.
