OPEN VERDICT RETURNED NEWCASTLE GIRL’S DEATH SYDNEY. Tuesday. The inquest was concluded to-day at Newcastle concerning the death of Hilda Johnson, aged 15, who died on December 29 after eating some chocolates. Henry Lord, storekeeper, stated in evidence that Harold Ferris, employed by him, had access to a drawer where poison was kept Tor killing rats. After hearing other witnesses th ; coroner returned an open verdict. The Newcastle police on February 26 obtained au adjournment of the inquest referred to in the message in order to enable them to take a certain course. Detective Ryan informed the coroner that he had heard from two youths employed at the post office that they had been offered some chocolates on the night, of the girbs death by one Harold Ferrfs. The youths said Ferris had casually remarked: “You need not eat them unless you like, because they have been in a pocket where I had some poison.” They did not eat them.
