ELLERSLIE TRAINING

QUIET MORNING’S WORK JUMPERS ON THE SCENE Training operations at Ellerslie this morning were carried out under pleasant conditions, but few horses were asked to gallop. The course proper (30 feet out), was the track used most, but number two grass track was also available. Jumpers were much in evidence, seteral being given essays over the sticks. Course Proper Neil. Catoma .and the Quin Abbey filly in J. Buchanan’s stable, ran over half a mile in 54 2-5, nothing separating them at the end. It was a good working gallop. At the five-furlong post To Money jumped away, and strode home in easy fashion in 1.6, the last four furlongs in 52 1-5. Corinax and The Lover were sent over a circuit, and after going easily over the first five furlongs, the pace was increased, and the pair were finishing strongly under a hold to register 2.11. The last half-mile was timed to take 52 2-5. Corinax will strip a very fit horse when he is again asked to carry silk. Number Two Grass Gold Money, accompanied by King Emerald, was allowed to bowl along freely over six furlongs in 1.22 2-5, the initial three in 40 2-5. The Paper Money filly does not appear to have, taken any harm from her outing in the Franklin Cup. Pekatahi, Respirator and Brampton finished in that order at the conclusion of a bout over half a mile in 51 4-5. Moving away from the six-furlong post Beau Cavalier got to the end of his first furlong in 12. 2-5, three in 39 4-5, and easing up over the last furlong recorded 1.24 4-5 for the six. He was then given a schooling task. The Jumpers 'Wikunoa (H. Dulieu) was set a task covering two schooling hurdles, but after negotiating the initial obstacle baulked at the second fence. A second attempt, however, saw him complete the effort. Karamu (T. Chaplin) had no difficulty in jumping a couple of schooling hurdles, while Bayiydamon (J. Burgess), also pleased over a similar course. The latter is yet a comparative noviee, but looks like making good in this department.

That Beau Cavalier (E. S tana way) still retains his ability was obvious •when he got over four fences in
