RESERVOIR COLLAPSE

INQUIRY OPENED

INSPECTION BY MR. FURKERT An inquiry into the bursting of the reservoir on Mount Eden last Monday was commenced this morning. The inquiry is to be conducted by Mr. F. W. Furkert, engineer-in-chief of the Public Works D rtment, who arrived this morning from Welliurrton. Tie spent the morning inspecting the damaged works, and was accompanied by Mr. W. F. Bush, city engineer, Mr. ,T. Tyler, assistant city engineer, and Mr. G. Carr, waterworks superintendent. Tie also met members of the City Council.

The break made in the reservoir concrete has been left as it was, but most of the debris has now been cleaned up. and the sides of the mountain where the water scoured out a course have been repaired.

►Sheds and two motor lorries and a road roller, which were almost covered with debris from the mountain side, have been uncovered again.
