RAILWAY’S EARNINGS FIGURES FOR JANUARY Press Association WELLINGTON, Thursday. An increase is shown in the working profits of the Railway Department for the month ended February 2. The amount is £172,252, an increase of £3,415 over the same period of hist year. Gisborne. — £3,263; £3,449; 121.51 per cent. North Island main lines and branches.— £389,208; £266,176; 82.51 per cent. Total: £393,251; £270,405; 82.96 per cent. SOUTH ISLAND Sou tli Island main lines and branches. — £230.764; £201,783; 95.43 per cent. Westport.— £9,4Q5; £7,326; 73.67 per cent. Nelson. — £2,308; £2,993; 150.12 per cent. Picton. — £3,010; £3,280; 121.62 per cent. Total: £245,488; £215,384; 95.43 per cent. Operating total; £638,739; £485,790; 88.03 per cent. Miscellaneous revenue: £21,268. Lake Wakatipu steamers: £1,585: £974; 175.5 per cent. Refreshment rooms. £24,540; 95.41 per cent.
