ROWDY SPEED BOATS

“NOISE NOT OFFENSIVE” YACHTSMEN’S OPINION A letter was received by the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association last evening from the Auckland Power-Boat. Association asking that the Government be informed that the rules of the Power Boat Association stipulate that stock silencers must be used on speed boats.

The Power-Boat Association was suffering because of the abuses of the rules by one or two irresponsible youths. One of the delegates at the meeting said that one speed boat from Auckland came out to the Manukau and could bo heard five and a-half miles away.

The chairman, Mr. O. A. Moller, thought that the difficulty could bo overcome by clubs stipulating that only boats fitted with stock silencers be allowed to compete in the races held by them. Another member hinted that the Power-Boat Association was onlywanting the Yacht Association to take action before the Government stepped in at the instigation of disinterested persons.

It was decided to send a letter to the Marine Department pointing out that silencers are used, and in the opinion of the association the noise is not unduly offensive.
