AUCKLAND GOLF CLUB
EXTENSIVE WORK IN HAND IMPROVEMENTS AT MIDDLEMORE A loss on the year’s working of £2,110 is shown in the annual report and balance sheet of the Auckland Golf Club, which will be presented at the annual meeting of the club on March 23. An analysis of the balance sheet, however, nfakes it clear that this is i primarily due to largely increased exj penditure on the club’s fine property 1 (at Middlemore. For instance, the I amount spent on material and altera - i tions in 1928 was £320; this year it amounts to £2,073. Revenue l’or the I year shows an increase of £l7? over last year’s figures. During the summer months, the remodelling of the course as recommended by Mr. C. H. Redhead has been l steadily proceeded with, under the j personal supervision of Mr. Redhead, i It is anticipated that the scheme will | be completed by the commencement of j the 1930 season.
Further drainage work has been carried out in pursuance of the report obtained from Mr. A. Hill. The club expresses its thanks to Mr. Hill for his ready assistance. In addition to the purchase of an additional area of 3S acres, the club has reconstructed its club-house. The furnishing of the club-house was largely financed by contributions from members, and a donation of £IOO was received from the Auckland Ladies’ Golf Club. To meet the cost of reconstruction and furnishing the club-house and remodelling the course, an additional £5,000 was raised from the Public Trustee on similar terms to the existing loan. The club’s property at Middlemore is valued at £18,646, on which there is a mortgage of £12,854. The membership for the year was 413, being an increase of one over last year’s figures. Subscriptions and entrance fees show an increase of approximately £6O. The amount received from the Auckland Ladies’ Club, however, shows a decrease of roughly £3O. On the other hand, green fees and sundry profits, etc., show an increase, and the amount received for grazing counter-balances a drop in the rent account.
Middlemore being under reconstruction, the offer of the Maungakiekie Club to hold the Easter tournament on its Titirangi links has been gratefully accepted by the club. This is the first occasion since its inception that the Auckland provincial championship has been held elsewhere than at Middlemore.
Notice of motion has been given to amend Rule 23 by increasing the fee for non-playing members from one guinea to three guineas.
