USE FOR DOCK SITE

HARBOUR BOARD MEETS A suggestion was received by the') Harbour Board at its meeting yesterday afternoon that a temporary ten- ? ancy of the old dock site should be leased for the purpose of parking motor-cars. “We are paying rates for the parts we have up for sale,” said the chairman, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, “and we may be able to get some revenue.” The question was referred to the Finance Committee. The customary donation of £lO 10s was made to the funds of the Shipwreck Relief Society. With a mind to the future the board is making alterations to the Calliope Dock. At its suggestion the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., has , forwarded plans of its three new ships. Rangitikei, Rangitana and Rangitaha. The treasurer reported that the ; total revenue for February amounted to £29,756 —a decrease of £1,760 upon the same month of 1928. The figures < for five months to the end of Febru- ; ary showed an increase of £5,840, on the corresponding period of 1927-2 S. The Manukau receipts for February amounted to £6B7 —an increase of £123 on the figure for February, 1925. The engineer reported that repairs to Orakei Wharf would cost £770. The cost of demolishing the eastern tee would be £l4O, and the expense of . demolishing the whole wharf, £520. It would cost £1,625 to convert KLohi- | marama "Wharf into a cattle wharf. It was decided . that Orakei "Wharf should be repaired for use solely as a cattle wharf.
