NORTHCOTE BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL
The Northeote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, presiding. The district electors’ list, submitted by' the town clerk, showed an increase of 86 names. On this list there are 1,729 compared -with 1,643 two years Building permits for the months of January and February were issued to the total value of £1,919. The council’s proportion of the cost of the combined destructor erected in conjunction with the Takapuna and Devonport Borough Council, was £630. It was decided to apply to the Treasury for a loan of the amount for 25 years at per cent., with a sinking fund of 2 per cent. The Commissioner of Crown Lands notified the council that in connection with the leasing of specified areas on the scenic reserve, Kauri Gully, to sports bodies, that it was not usual to permit public reserves of this nature to fall into the hands of private sports clubs. However, it might be possible to lease areas to sports bodies provided they would allow the public free access to the grounds and permit them to play the specific game catered for on payment of a nominal fee. In order that the matter might receive further consideration, the commissioner said he would be pleased for definite information as to the Domain Board's proposals.
