AUCKLAND SOCIETY FORMED ASSISTING LISTENERS Forty-five radio enthusiasts met last evening and formed a body which will be known in the future as the Auckland Radio Society. Its principal object will be the furthering of the interests of listeners generally, and the establishment of a radio workshop and club. Major IT. Robinson presided. Major Robinson said the motto for the society should be "Tactful persistency.” Their dealings with the Radio Broadcasting Company should be in a spirit of friendliness and co-operation, otherwise the society would be doomed to failure. It was stated that such a society was needed. Auckland was the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere without a radio club. If finances permitted, a workshop and a clubhouse would be arranged, and a library could be built up. ‘‘We will be only too pleased to cooperate with the society,” stated Mr. S. J. Hayden., station director for IYA. He said it was an excellent scheme to form a society of this kind. Proposed rules for the society were discussed, amended, and adopted. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. E. E. Nalder: vicepresidents. Messrs. F. Hammond and G. T. Jones: secretary, Mr. H. B. Arthur; assistant secretary, Mr. M. Stewart: treasurer, Mr. M. Cliurton: organiser, Mr. H. Burrell: trustees, Messrs. Burrell and Nalder: committee, Messrs. F. Harrowell, E. L. Warwick. R. King, W. J. Sexton, and H. A. Steadman.
