Obituary
mr. j. j. McCarthy' Mr. Jerome Joseph McCarthy, of May’s Road, Te Papapa, who died in the Auckland Hospital last week at the age of 54, was for many years a guard in the New Zealand Railways. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy, of Church Street East. Onehunga. He is survived by his wife and a family. The funeral took place at Papakura Cemetery and was large Ivattended. MR. H. F. HOLDER Well known in the railway service and in football and aquatic circles, Mr. Henry Francis Holder died in Auckland on Monday at the age of 67. Born in Monmouthshire, England, Mr. Holder came to New Zealand with liis parents in the ship Merrington in 1863, and was educated in Auckland. Joining the Railway Department, he was for some years foreman of the carriage department at Dunedin, but was transferred to Auckland, where he stayed until he retired on superannuation. In his earlier years Mr. Holder was prominent in sporting circles. He was a member of the crew of the yacht Manola, and he was a prominent footballer. His wife died several years ago. Mr. Holder is survived by a brother, Mr. W. Holder, and four sisters— Mrs. A. Cleave, Mrs. W. H. Tizard. Mrs. W. Wildman. and Miss E. Holder, all of Auckland. Having been a member of the Parnell Oddfellows and Newmarket Druids. Mr. Holder was accorded a lodge funeral yesterday at Purewa.
