OPEN-AIR SCHOOLS

HEADMASTERS DISAPPROVE MODERN BUILDINGS BEST Auckland headmasters prefer the modern school building to the openair type which has been advocated recently, according to the following resolution carried at a meeting of the Headmasters’ Association. “That, having heard the opinion of headmasters with experience of the modern type of school building now in vogue in the Auckland district, and having also heard from the Education Board’s architect of the further improvements suggested for future buildings. this meeting is of opinion: (a) That the modern buildings are highly satisfactory for school purposes: (b) that the lighting and ventilation are such that there is the minimum of strain on the eyes of pupils and teachers, and the maximum of freshair circulation; (c) that, from a hygienic point of view, these buildings could scarcely be excelled; (d) that the advantages of these buildings for teaching purposes far outweigh those suggested by reports for the open-air schools now in use in some parts of the Dominion.”
