Quiet, but steady trading is recorded on ’Change. Most markets are firm around late levels, but the volume of business over the past 24 hours has not been heavy.

Following sales outside the < allroom, the scrip was dealt with at mid-day at 28s lid. Australian of «’ommerce scrip is very firm, and buyers at 35s fid at the eariy call failed to draw’ sellers below 375. Buyers eased 6d at mid-day. Steady buyers nf Nationals of New Zealand do not attract sellers. In the insurance group, A.P.A/s are slightly easier, with sellers at 9d 9d and buyers at Ss 9d. South British scrip is very strongly held, with sellers not prepared to make a declaration on present levels. * * * In the coal group, slightly more interest is being taken in 'Hikurangis, although the market for t.ne scrip is very weak, and buyers’ offers are mostly well below sellers* ideas of

value. The ordinaries were sought at 9d at mid-day, compared with a market price of 6s at the time of the last recorded sale. Increased interest is being taken in breweries, with a wide range of shares quoted. New Zealands saw a further sale outside the callroom at 5Ss. The greatest inquiry for this scrip comes from the South. Steady buyers of Innes’s shares fail to draw a declaration from sellers. * * * In the mining section, Waihis show a slight firming tendency, and buyers offered 13s 3d this morning, compared with sales yesterday at 13s 2d. There is little strength in the market at the moment, however. Mount Lyells are very firm. * * * Business yesterday afternoon: New Zealand Paper Mills, 18s 3d. Business at this morning’s early call: On ’Change—Auckland Gas (ord.). Its 9d (two parcels). Reported—New Zealand Breweries, 58s.
