FARMER HIT ON HEAD

SERIOUS INJURY RECEIVED ARREST OF TWO NEIGHBOURS (Special to THE SUN) TE KTJITI, Sunday. After being admitted to the Te Kuiti Hospital last evening in a critical condition, suffering from a fracture of the skull, Mr. John Appleton alleged that his injuries were caused by two neighbours. So serious were Mr. Appleton’s injuries that Sergeant Fearnley decided to take his depositions in case death should occur. Mr. Appleton, who is a single man, , aged 40 years, said he owned a farm at , Oparure, 12 miles west of Te Kuiti. A , dispute occurred with two neighbours j concerning the water rights of a stream which passed along the joint boundary of his property and theirs. Mr. Appleton alleged that, following the dispute, he was struck a severe blow on the head with a stone. He went to his whare, where he was discovered by a passer-by, who took him i to a settler’s residence. Dr. Isaac, of Te Kuiti. was summoned, and the injured man was removed to hospital. This afternoon John McKay Smith and Neils Theodore Larsen, neighbours of Mr. Appleton. were arrested ; and charged before justices of the j peace with assault and causing actual bodily harm. They were remanded on bail. They will appear in the Te Kuiti ! Police Court to-morrow morning.
