SPEED ON WAIKATO
OUTBOARD RACING AT RANGIRIRI Outboard motor racing was responsible for most of the thrills, expected and unexpected, that ensured the success of the Rangiriri Regatta on Saturday. Mao.ri canoe races, which in past years have been the most popular feature of the day’s sport, were almost forgotten as the roar of outboarfl motors rivetted the attention of the crowd. Several owners brought their boats
from Auckland, and the 2.000 speeta- J tors were treated to an exciting day. In the second race one of the competitors, Miss Jill, capsized through. | her engine clamp slipping. Other ! boats went to her assistance, and the i race had to be restarted. Miss Jill t meanwhile had been righted and again j took part. Each race was over four rounds of the course ,a total of four miles, and There was rehandicapping * for each race after the first. Results: First Race.—Chancit, 1; Miss Jill, 2; Miss Waikato, 3.
