PAPATOETOE LACKS WATER
SITUATION GROWS SERIOUS (From Our Own Correspondent) PAPATOETOE, Saturday. The present dry spell has caused an acute shortage of water in the outlying suburbs, practically equal to that prevailing during the drought of last year. Householders’ tanks in Papatoetoe, Manurewa and outlying suburbs are in many instances dry, and water has to be carted from nearby supplies. The position is serious, especially on account of the number of fires during the past few months. The Papatoetoe Brigade is equipped with first-aid appliances only, and without a plentiful supply of water available, is practically useless to cope with an outbreak. The reticulation of the district with a water supply from McLaughlin’s Hill is proceeding, and will be available to ail parts of the district before next summer.
