FINE HORSEMANSHIP
SPORTS AT OTAHUHU A POPULAR MEETING In spite of strong counter-attrac-tions on Saturday afternoon, there was a large attendance at the first annual sports meeting of the Otahuhu Sports Association, held on the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s course. Ideal weather prevailed and in spite of the hard nature of the turf, some excellent exhibitions of jumping were witnessed, that of Mr. Alex Walker, a well-known member of the Pakuranga Hunt, being worthy of note. He won the best pony hunter class with Miss Flirt, and the best hunter over obstacles with Hauturu, both well-known hunters. One of the most popular items was the best team of three school ponies, to be ridden t>y primary school boys. Four teams paraded, and after a close contest the verdict went to a trio of creams from tho East Tamaki Public School. Good entries were received for all the events, the Pakuranga Hunt Club being well represented. Mr. C. J. Hosking, of Waiuku, officiated as judge. The Auckland Mounted Rifles Band was in attendance, and gave a very enjoyable programme of musical numbers under the baton of Bandmaster Stuart.
