VICE-ADMIRAL HOTHAM

PROMOTION ANNOUNCED WAS N.Z. COMMODORE (Australian and. N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Thursday. Vice-Admiral Sir Reginald Tyrwhitt has been promoted admiral, and RearAdmiral A. G. Motham, formerly Commodore of the New Zealand Squadron, becomes vice-admiral. Sir Richard Webb, who commanded the New Zealand in the latter part of tho war, has retired. Sir Reginald Tyrwhitt was promoted vice-admiral in 1D25. He played a brilliant part in the war when in command of destroyer flotillas in Heligoland Bight, the Dogger Bank and elsewhere. He was recently Commander-m-Chief of the China station. Vice-Admiral Alan Geoffrey Motham canio to New Zealand in 1921. .He had hud a distinguished career in the Navy before his appointment. He was a naval cadet in IS9O, a lieutenant in 3 896. and captain in 1913. He saw service in the war with the light cruisers.
