MOTORISTS PAY
PETROL AND TYRE TAX BIG REVENUE INCREASE The substantial revenues which motorists pay to the Government through Customs taxation is shown by the returns for the first two months of this year. The petrol tax collected at the Port of Auckland amounted to £ 58,364. In addition there was £ 9,173 collected by way of tyre tax. The total is .£67,537, compared with a total of £30,290 in the first two months of 1925. The general Customs returns for the half-year ended February 28 also show an increase. The returns arc £ 50,624 greater than those for |ie same period a year ago. The following table gives the monthly returns for the period in each year:
