MANY GRASS FIRES

BRIGADES KEPT BUSY Grass fires are a source of worry to the city and suburban fire brigades at present. At 12.5 o’clock to-day the Mt. Albert Brigade was called out to a fire in Malvern Road. It was quickly suppresesd, and the only damage done was to a hedge. Several grass fires occurred in the suburbs yesterday afternoon. One in Woodward Road, Mount Albert, was suppressed by the Mount Albert Fire Brigade, and another fire in Judge’s Bay Road, Parnell, was extinguished by the Parnell Brigade before any damage was done.

The Lowestoft fishing boat Two Boys has beaten the post-war herring fishing record with a catch of 442 crans (442,000 fish). America has now 150,000 millionaires in dollars. A million dollars is equal to about £200,000 sterling. Incomes of over one million dollars are owned by 283 Americans.
