ARREARS OVERTAKEN

STATE ADVANCES OFFICE £772,150 PAID SINCE DECEMBER Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. In regard to advances to settlers and workers, Sir Joseph Ward stated today that from December 10 to February 27, £ 1,235,765 was authorised, comprising 619 applications by settlers and 598 by workers. The actual amounts paid over during the period were .€413,175 to 311 settlers, and €355,975 to 409 workers. Applicants concerned in the balance of £1,235,765 had been advised that money was available and would be paid over in due course. Since December 10 new loan moneys, amounting to £1,166,850, had been added to the capital of the State Advances Office. These facts showed that there had been no delay on the part of the State Advances in giving effect to the Government’s policy. All arrears had been overtaken, as far as applications were concerned which had been received since the present Government came into office, and in respect of which the necessary valuations had been made. The applications, which were dealt with on their merits, included many which had been made some time ago, but which had been renewed when the new Government came into office. Practical activity was being shown by the State Advances Office right throughout the country in connection with what was of very great importance and assistance to the people.
