TRADE IN PRODUCE AMPLE POTATO STOCKS TROUBLE WITH BLIGHT Trading in grain, seed,, and produce circles continues to be restricted to the covering of immediate requirements, with merchants for the most part taking little interest in later deliveries. Most markets are very steady, with few signs of near future advances in any section. The position in regard to potatoes is practically unchanged. The quality of the tubers coming in from Pukekohe is reported in many quarters to be far from satisfactory, as apart from blight, the tubers tend toward the small side. The price to merchants is steady around £6 on trucks Pukekohe; through store, Auckland, merchants ask Ss 6d a cwt. Rangitikei sellers for March delivery have reduced their demands by 2s 6d to £5 17s 6d over the week, but until the Pukekolie crop is out of the way it does not seem that many outside orders will be placed in Auckland. In the South, £ 6 is still asked for early April delivery, but merchants here are not interested as yet. Ample Supplies of Onions. The onion market is weak. Available supplies are more than sufficient for immediate requirements, and orders for shipment to America have not come up to expectations. Pukekohe sellers are asking £ 5 10s to £ 6 on trucks in wholesale lots. The Aorangi on March 12 is expected to take 400 or 500 tons, but this quantity will not be sufficient to remove the surplus here. An indication of the American market can be taken from the fact that cabled offers were received in Auckland during the week for onions for July shipment. The season over there is apparently expected to be an early one, with a heavy crop. Through store Auckland, best quality onions sell at from 7s to 7s 6d a cwt. Oat Market Firmer The oat market, after a substantial drop a week or so ago,, has a firmer tone in the South. Through store, Auckland, B Gartons are selling at 4s 4d a bushel, as well at 3d to 4d in advance of that figure. Chaff is slightly easier in the South. Ample supplies are available on the spot, and quotations range up to £9 5s through store for good bright sample. Wheat is stationary, and Auckland quotations are unchanged at 7s 8d a bushel through store. Maize Market Lifeless, The market for maize shows no signs of a revival, and supplies are still available at 5s 3d f.o.b. Gisborne. The retail demand is steady. Bran and pollard sells at unchanged prices, merchants asking 8s 6d a cwt through store for bran, and 10s Od through store for pollard. Grass and clover seeds meet with a steady demand for autumn sowing, although the volume of the business is not up to that of last year. LONDON BUTTER MARKET TONE DULL AT PRESENT (Australian and N.Z. The truck, a latest model Stewart, 29-seater, is equipped with all the latest accessories, including luggage racks and indicator. There is a smoking compartment at the back, separate from the non-smoking compartment. The body is of panelled aluminium, a saving of 2cwt in the weight of the bus. Asked his opinion of the bus after the trial run, Mr. Allum said that it was purely a demonstration, the firm concerned, Trucks, Ltd., having expressed a desire for the board to see the advance in motor-bus transport.
