JOCKEY NOT GUILTY

ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE AN ANNOYED STEWARD LAUNCESTON, Wednesday. William Clear, the jockey who was charged with attempting to murder Major Evans, secretary of the Nor them Trotting Association, in the jockeys’ room on the Launceston racecourse on February 11, was to-day found not guilty and was discharged. Clear, who was alleged to have fired a shot at Evans after being disqualified, said in evidence that the steward who moved for his disqualification had offered him £4O for his horse, Cardinal, although the horse was worth £2OO. The same steward had backed his horse and became annoyed when it lost.
