BYRD ORDERS SHIP BACK
ICE DANGERS TOO GREAT (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. BAY OF WHALES, Wed. Commander Byrd has ordered the supply-ship Eleanor Boliug not to attempt to break through the ice, but to return with her cargo to New Zealand. The ship turned on Mor,lay night, when she was 1,060 miles southeast of Taiaroa Head, Otago Harbour. Byrd said the winter was coming down with such rapidity that the Eleanor Boling would probably never escape if she continued southward.
