BERSERK WITH A KNIFE EIGHT PERSONS WOUNDED (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) NEW YORK, Wednesday. A burly ironworker suddenly went insane this evening at the Times Square subway station, which was packed with people who were soaked with rain. Screaming and wielding a butcher’s knife wildly, the man wounded eight two of whom may die. A policeman finally struck the man on the head with a baton and felled him. He then took him to hospital. Ilis condition is serious. The “rush hour” crowd was thrown into turmoil by the sensation. Women screamed and rushed toward the exits. A traffic officer entered the station and grappled with the maniac on the floor until the policeman arrived and subdued him.
