NO MUSSOLINIS
PUBLIC SERVICE HEADS “ABSURD” SAYS COMMISSIONER (From Our Resident Reporter) WELLINGTON, Wednesdaj'. “The suggestion that there are Mussolinis in the Public Service,’ is in the highest degree absurd,” said Mr. P. D. N. Versehaffelt, Public Service Commissioner, to-day. Mr. Versehaffelt referred to remarks reported to have been made during a i meeting of the 1928 Committee in I Christchurch. “A further statement | reflecting upon the ability of departi mental heads is surely somewhat ; strong,” he said. “None of the de- | partniental heads are absolute and i even if one of them desired to act I like a Mussolini he could not continue very long. I myself am not a supreme ! authority. There is a board above j me. and it meets to consider any mat- ! ters which may be brought to its atj tention.”
