RUNNING A LOAN POLL
HAMILTON RUMOURS TALK OF TAXIS AND TOUTING (From Our Own CorrespondentJ HAMILTON, To-day. The existence of widespread rumours in town concerning the methods the Borough Council used to advertise the waterworks loan carried last week was revealed £.t a council meeting last night, when allegations made that taxis were used to tout for votes were strenuously denied by the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Row. Bitter complaints at the fact that the loan was carried by so small a majority was made by Mr. J. E. Tidd, leader of the opposition to the loan. He said that if he had known, he would have organised opposition, and the poll would have been rejected. On his motion, it was decided to obtain a full report of the expenditure incurred in connection with advertising the advantages of the proposal.
