SOUND OR SILENT?
TALKING PICTURES IN AUSTRALIA The recent statement by Adolph Zukor. president of Paramount !*• - tores, that talking productions would not displace the silent film, suggests toat there will be two entirely distinct fields of motion picture entertainment in the future. At the present time Paramount has a total of 22 all-talking pictures listed for 1929. Of these four —"Interference,” “The Doctor's Secret” (a talking version of the play "Half an Hour,” °y Sir James Barrie), ‘‘The Letter’ and "Night Club.” are completed. There is, however, an entirely separate silent picture programme of high duality which is being produced expressly for silent picture houses, and it is probable that, in tlic near future, Australian cities will possess recognised talking-picture houses, and recognised silent picture houses. These two types of theatre will be as distinct as the present legitimate theatre Is from the movie-house.
