HEAVY LOSSES AT RACES
YOUNG MAN STEALS £2OO Press Association DUNEDIN, Monday. Association with a gambling set, and heavy speculation on the racecourse led to the downfall of Howard William Thomas, a single man aged 28, who pleaded guilty and was committed for_ sentence on a charge of the theft of £206 from Henry Schneidemtn, clothing merchant. Accused had been in Schneideman’s employ for three years as manager, first at Palmerston North and Hastings branches, and then at Dunedin. Accused stated that he had lost £4O at the Wingatui races tho firet day and £55 the second day.
