MOTOR CYCLE THRILLS UP MANGERE MOUNTAIN

Motor-cycles roaring up the nearly perpendicular slopes of Mangere Mountain on Saturday afternoon provided breathless excitement and thrills to a large crowd of spectators. The occasion was the annual hillclimbing championships held under the auspices of the Sports Motor-Cycle Club. The course ran straight up the western side of Mangere Mountain, the climb of 3S2ft being at places on a grade of llin to the loot. A 25yds run was provided at the foot of the climb. To get up this the riders had to accelerate to a really dangerous pace. The track was in line condition and proved an excellent test, both of the capacity of the machines and of the riders’ ability to control them.’ The thrilling nature of the test kept the spectators In a constant state of excitement. Several times riders could not control their machines, and they left the track, scattering the spectators in every direction. The results are as follow: 350 c.c. Class.—A. Blomfield fell in the sports handicap and received body bruises.
