TWO SAVED FROM DEATH
A FORTUNATE ESCAPE ALMOST ASPHYXIATED (United P.A.—By Telegraph —- Copyright) Reed. 10.45 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. Two women were saved from death in an amazing way on Saturday night. Herbert Schofield, aged 30, of Kensington, met with a motor accident, and was taken home by three men. As they approached the flat, they were assailed by a strong smell of gas. In a bedroom they found Mr. Schofield’s sister lying unconscious in bed. His mother was found in a stupor. A plumber stated that 100 ft of gas bad escaped in the room, and a doctor stated that had the women stayed a few minutes longer in the room they would have heen asphyxiated. Miss Schofield’s condition is critical.
