CHANGES IN NAVY

NEW CHIEF OF STAFF CAPTAIN J. S. G. FRASER

Arriving at Wellington by the Kuahine this week, Captain J. S. G. Fraser, D. 5.0., R.N., is to be chief staff officer to Commodore Swabey, commanding the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy. Succeeding Captain C. N. Reyne, R.N., he will be second naval member of the New Zealand Naval Board. During the war Captain Fraser gave varied and distinguished service. He was navigator of the surveying ship Endeavour in 1914, and was later appointed to the battleship Revenge, which bombarded the Belgian coast. Joining the staff of the admiral of the Dover Patrol, he had to make the chart preparations for the sailing time of transports. Captain Fraser, who is 43 years of age, has been in the navy for 30 years. Promoted to his present rank in 1923, he has had command of the Dublin, and the cruisers Champion and Canterbury.
