SMALLER HOLDINGS

MORE SUBDIVISION IN THE NORTH GOVERNMENT’S POLICY The subdivision of land for dairying or for intensive cultivation is find- | ing favour through the whole of the Far North, stated the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, on his return from a visit to that district. It is recognised by the in' .ants of the inland towns, and towns of much larger size, that their existence depends much on the complete development of the Government’s policy. Referring? to the Kaitaia district, Mr. de la Perrelle said it seemed to him to be a community to itself, with magnificent bush scenery on the one side and an extensive sea-front on the other. “There is,” he pointed out, “an extensive valley of rich dairying country, known as the Victoria Valley, upon which there are many prosperous holdings. “Kaitaia seems to be a self-contained, go-ahead little town with a population of SQO or 600 people. It is significant that about 16 years ago the town did not exist. “North Auckland.” he said, is a land in the making where there is ample scope for pioneering capacity and spade work, both literally and in reality.”
