FOREIGN OFFICE DELAYS

SIR AUSTEN CRITICISED (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Friday. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Herald” says the Foreign Secretary, Sir Austen Chamberlain, continues to justify Foreign Office delays by the plea of the necessity of consulting the Dominions. Apparently he does not realise that to blame it on to the Dominions’ attitude not only does not impress foreign Governments, but also considerably irritates the Dominions. seeing that everyone knows that only when it wants an excuse for delay does the Foreign Office show punctiliousness about consulting the Dominions at every step. When it wants to go ahead, it does so and tells the Dominions afterwards.
