JEWELLER’S LOSSES
£B,OOO DWINDLED AWAY (Special to THE SUN) HAMILTON, To-day. A committee of creditors of John Edward Fitt, watchmaker and jeweller, of Auckland, was set up at a meeting yesterday to consult with the official assignee as to the best means of realising Fitt’s assets. Bankrupt said he began business in 1910 with £25, and by 1918, when he had four establishments, he was worth £B,OOO. Later he lost half this sum in a farm land deal, and then a slump at Palmerston North put him so far behind that he had only £ 600 when he came to Auckland. He had no luck in business in the North. The amount owing to unsecured creditors was given as £460, and the assets on the schedule were £673. There was a nominal surplus.
