The inquest concerning the death of Stephen Jam.es Johnston, aged about 40. of To Kopuru, Dargaville, who was run down and Rilled by a motor-car driven by Mrs, Stanley, of Riccarton m Manchester Street South, last evening, was opened before the coroner, Mr. H. P. Lawry, this evening. Evidence of identification was given and the inquest was then adjourned sine die. The condition of Mr. E. A. Baldero of 4 Tennyson Street, Takapuna. the other man who was run down a 1; the

same time, and suffered a fractured skull, is stated at the hospital to be fairly satisfactory, following an operation performed last evening, but he is still seriously ill.
