PLAZA

TWO BIG PICTURES All the power, the pathos and the dramaitc events that have made railway building and railway operation in out-of-the-way places one of the most colourful episodes in the progress of any country, is vividly depicted in this week’s offering at the Plaza Theatre.

| The picture is Milton Sills’s latest starring vehicle, “The Crash,” and i'c is by far the best picture in which this virile star has appeared for a long time. As the “hardboiled” leader of a tough wrecking crew, stationed in the High Sierra Mountains, Sills

Milton Sills lends a portrayal that compares with the season’s best. The picture was adapted from Frank L. Packard’s story, “The Wrecking Ross,” and tells how the soubrette of a struggling burlesque troupe marries and tries to make a home for the boss of the wrecking crew. They have nothing in common except their love lor each other. The girl has been used

to the free and easy ways of the travelling show. The man knows nothing of women except what he learned as a boy. It is a wonderful situation and every advantage of it has been taken in unfolding the picture. Suppose you made love to a girl thought was your best friend’s wife, decided to give her up when you realised this, and then discovered she wasn’t his wife at all. This is one of the gay, sophisticated situations in “Phyllis of the Follies,” which is the second attraction at the Plaza Theatre with Alice Day and Matt Moore in the stellar roles. Edmund Burns, Lilyan Tashman and Duane Thompson comprise the remainder of the cast. The picture has been lavishly produiced and includes, besides back-stage and dressing-room shots of the Follies chorus, elaborate boudoir settings and sophisticated hotel scenes. The bright supporting programme includes a gazette and the latest picture in the ever-popular “Collegians” series.

An aditional attraction this evening will be. the first exclusive pictures of the great Aussie-Limerick race at Dunedin.
