A BROKEN ROMANCE

(Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.53 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. The “Evening Standard” discloses that the woman to whom Lord Haldane was engaged in 1890 tor five weeks was Miss Munro-Ferguson, a sister of Viscount Novar. No explanation was made beyond her saying that she did not understand herself. She was then in her early twenties,, beautiful and accomplished. She died in 1897.

Lord Haldane paid her a touching tribute in his recently-published autobiography. Lady Horner, recalling the incident, mentions that Lord Haldane found consolation in increased concentration on his work.
