INFLUENZA MENACES ISLANDS OF PACIFIC
SEVENTY DEATHS AT WALLIS ISLAND AND ON FUTUNA (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (United Service) Reed. 9.35 a.m. SUVA, To-day. There have been 30 deaths at Futuna, and 40 on Wallis Island, from pneumonic influenza. A cablegram from London says the influenza epidemic is seriously retarding the work of the London law courts. Sir High Court judges, including the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Hewart, are at present in bed, as also are five police court magistrates. Other victims include King George’s cousin. Princess Helena Victoria; the Earl of Denbigh, and Lord Ashfield; also M. Poincare and M. Briand, Premier and Foreign Minister of France.
